Mekanism Skateboards.
Paris, France / London, UK
Mekanism Skateboards from Paris start the year with a great follow-up to their previous artist series of skateboard decks. After Invader and John Maeda Mekanism asked the London-based creative duo Warren Du Preez and Nick Thornton Jones for a design. No restrictions, no provisions, no rules.

If you are familiar with Warren and Nick's work you know that they don't need directions to begin with. Previous clients have included Björk, Massive Attack, Unkle, or Issey Miyake.

A quote from SHOWStudio best describes the duo's creative impetus: "Through a shared fascination of the image-making process and exploration of the digital revolution, they push their discipline towards creating a more three-dimensional canvas. They regard themselves to be part of a creative renaissance, and in this environment challenge themselves to create what they consider a 'hypervisual' aesthetic, a stimulating visual state they claim provokes 'a shift in consciousness'."

For the collaboration with Mekanism Warren and Nick conceived a black and white mutating disruptive pattern creating an optial illusion of depth and three-dimensionality.

Apart from the deck, which is released in an edition of 100 pieces, there will also be 100 T-shirts available for purchase.
