Foster Huntington Prints
24. December 2014 / Jörg
Home Is Where You Park It!
In 2011 Foster Huntington left his job in New York and traveled thousands of miles in a camper. His travel and camping adventures are captured and documented through a series of photographs published in the book "Home Is Where You Park It!". With the second edition of this publication, Foster has also made available a selection of images as signed and numbered prints.
I highly recommend Foster's Instagram, too. If you ever considered setting up a 'proper' tree house, you'll find great inspiration and ideas there!
In the context of the upcoming mini-collab with Bianca Chandôn, here is a quick introduction:
Ben Medansky was born under the blue skies of Scottsdale, Arizona. He left his desert paradise to attend the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, but the West was never far from his mind. After working for Peter Shire, Kelly Lamb, Anthony Pearson, Shio Kusaka, the Haas Brothers and a few other visionaries, Ben realized that his own visions were beckoning to be realized.
In the Summer of 2012, Ben Medansky Ceramics was created. Since then, Ben has blazed his own version of the California dream while staying true to the roots of his medium. His ceramics practice is simple: a few pounds of clay, an extruder, a wheel, basic tools, an ambitious team, experiments in glaze, and a vision for each individual object. From this simple practice, Ben creates sought after functional wares and objets d’art that are minimalist meditations informed by architectural structures and industrial processes.
Visit Ben Medansky's website for an overview of his current works and to purchase some of the new items online.
Last Friday the first items from Bianca Chandôn's autumn/winter collection were released through the brand's own web shop. Recently, we've seen the rise of smaller, independent skate brands who have been introducing new and more progressive approaches towards skateboard graphics. Bianca Chandôn is among the very few American brands that are keeping up with the creative spirit of their European counterparts such as Isle, Magenta, Polar, The National Skateboard Company, or Palace.
Apart from the yet to be released "Paradise Garage" items, the two Nature Decks are my favorites: 60s/70s style postcard motifs, clean and simple.
From Bradley:
"In February 2014 I suffered a severe snowboarding accident that has left me paralyzed with significant financial and physical challenges.

Axel Hoedt continues his Photo Documentary of Carnival Culture
Following Once A Year (Steidl, 2013), Dusk continues Axel Hoedt’s journey through the carnival culture of southwestern Germany, and extends it into Austria and Switzerland.
Hoedt’s project is to undermine traditional (and often clichéd) representations of carnival: here are no paraders somersaulting before the crowds, no embarrassing scenes of drunken debauchery. Instead, he photographs the revelers in earnest poses, static against a bright background, in a forest or next to rural buildings, juxtaposing classic studio photography, Polaroid snapshots and still-life imagery.
Often installing the quaint colorful masks within an unforgiving winter environment, Hoedt reminds us of what carnival once used to be: a final celebration before the dawning of hard times.
Nike ACG
13. December 2014 / Jörg
(Re)Launch
On December 18th, Nike ACG returns to define sport utility for the city. This first collection will be available through Nikelab stores and Nikelab.com exclusively.
It's going to be interesting to see how Nike defines a category that's been covered by some very progressive independent labels in the past. The dark Blade Runner-styled teaser points towards a design direction that we could be familiar with already...?

José Parlá: Segmented Realities presents a group of ten sculptural paintings by José Parlá that suggest cultural fragments salvaged from urban sites that have experienced social and cultural upheaval and transformation.
As do segments of the Berlin wall, Parlá's sculptures bear witness to waves of history that seem to be inscribed on their surfaces, told in an expressive and poetic language of the street.

Happy 20th, Playstation!
10. December 2014 / Jörg
Anniversary Edition of the PS4 (sold out)
12.300 units of the 20th Anniversary Playstation 4 have sold out instantly through Sony's online shop in the US. However, the festivities have just begun: follow Sony / PS4 on Twitter (#20yearsofplay) to see old ads, video clips, and more from the past two decades of gaming.
"Outdoors" will play an important role in fashion in the coming months. It's exciting to see some classics return but also to see some new players enter the market. Snow Peak who produce some of the most well-designed equipment - Titatnium mugs and plates are my personal favorites - have launched their first apparel line for A/W 2014.
The collection consists of functional basics in various categories such shirts, insulated mid-layers as well as down-filled outerwear and accessories. Visit the brand's Japanese website to check the current lookbook and order the full line at the US online shop.
"Imagineering: The intersection of imagination and creativity. We are exhibiting the Ishikawa Collection which has garnered much attention both in Japan and abroad in Okayama Castle, a historical cultural asset, and its environs. By encountering art in the course of daily life, families, children, and other residents will have their imaginations and creativity kindled.
Furthermore, we believe that this art collection will serve to attract visitors from urban areas to the Seto Inland Sea region, with the city of Okayama playing a central role and acting as the hub of the Seto Inland Sea region."
Eden Rock Gallery, from its new location on top of the iconic hotel Eden Rock - St Barths, along with Art Saint Barth, promoting the island as an international art destination, invites the prestigious Galerie Perrotin to exhibit the work of famed Brooklyn-based artist KAWS.
KAWS, having frequently vacationed in Saint Barthélemy for many years, titled this show with a biting sense of humor: Permanent Vacation. This is also the title of his latest dolphin-shaped painting in which borders and depth become irrelevant. The artist utilizes his unique sense of color in a bold and saturated palette combined with increasingly fragmented close-ups of streamlined Pop Art iconography. Paintings from the artist’s new black and white series Man’s Best Friend will also be shown in the exhibition.

It is safe to say that we have all waited for this day for many years. Finally the wait is over, after almost 10 years! When Helmut Lang left his company in 2005 the fragrances were discontinued. Consequently, prices on ebay soared and many held on to the few drops they had still left.
All three scents will return this fall 1:1 as the originals, unchanged! Initially the Helmut Lang fragrances will only be sold through the company's flagship stores (US, London, Paris) as well as the US online shop.
Launch of the new unisex fragrance "Girl" by Pharrell Williams in collaboration with Comme des Garçons Parfums. The bottle features original artwork by KAWS.
The fragrance features top notes of neroli, lavender and white pepper; middle ones of iris, styrax and violet, and base ones of vetiver, patchouli, cedarwood and sandalwood.
You might share the notion that once you've seen the latest Planet of the Apes movie that you would actually like to meet these creatures, to talk to them, to interact with them. For the first time, I can truly say that through CGI life-like creatures were brought onto the screen that the audience will not recognize well-rendered 3D polygon models. It's hard to process that most of what you see on the big screen is not real, that most of it is 'just' pixels. However, and this is the most important asset of the film, while watching you never spend any thoughts on the technology delivering the story. What you see you take for granted as 'real'. If it was impossible 50-60 years ago to believe that films with such realistic artificial visual effects could be produced, it's rather hard to believe today, that what we see is artificial. That these apes don't exist...
NECA have produced a small set of fully posable action figures. These are real, not life-like but very close! Maurice, one of the main characters, is the most impressive - not only in the movie.

Light Down
I know it's not really the time to be looking at jackets, even less so if down-filled. However, colder evenings are certain to come in the not-too-distant future... To prepare for that I personally think that Norse Projects' new insulator will do the best of jobs. I would pick the yellow colorway. It's still summer, after all...
What's the story behind this hat? Is "Wizard" the dog's name? Why is the dog on this hat? I don't know. However, the design somehow stuck and at the moment it's one of the best hats in my opinion.
During a bit of Sunday surfing I stumbled upon Bermuda Trips. Dean Edmonds' and Natsumi Sashida's curated online store of their finds from the US, Japan and the UK. Head over there online or make an appointment to see the goods in the 'real world'. My favorite items: Nemadji pottery and vintage enamel pins.

Goodenough Japan for the POOL aoyama
3. July 2014 / Jörg
Goodenough Japan: Mid 1990s vs. Mid 2010s
There are a handful of T-shirts that I truly regret not having bought when they were right in front of me. Two of these are by Goodenough, one of Japan's earliest streetwear brands to make an impact overseas. I know exactly why I didn't buy neither the Little G Logo nor the GDEH Swimming Club T-shirt. They were insanely expensive and they were available. Two or three stores in Munich carried Goodenough at the time so it seemed not that special, not that desirable? Until they were gone...!
When the first designs for Hiroshi Fujiwara's latest retail venture "the POOL aoyama" surfaced, one of the store's key visuals instantly reminded me of that old Goodenough T-shirt graphic. And, lo and behold, just a few weeks back the GDEH Swimming Club was re-released as a POOL aoyama special item. My first instinct induced me to start the machine... to organize one. My second thought was: 'nope... no need'.
Not owning it will preserve that (nostalgic) memory of having missed out. And as with all retros they will always just be that - retros as in "not-the-original". What counts ist the fact that one got the original. Not off of eBay or from a vintage store but from the official stockist, at the time. What makes such pieces special are the stories connected to them: trips, friends, coincidences, frustration. The story for this retro/re-release might only be "I wrote an eMail".

Fred Perry 1934 Re-Issue Project
23. June 2014 / Jörg
Classic / Modern / Comfort
Tennis styles have slowly but gradually entered the sneaker market and as it appears will be highly visible on the streets this summer. The second footwear project I was involved with this season is with Fred Perry and I'm very happy to show you some of the early concept ideas I put together over a year ago. As one can tell from the final product, not many changes were/had to be made. While the design itself appears subtle (wearable!) the focus lay on the choice of leather: an ultra-soft suede for the best comfort.
In 1934 Fred Perry took home the first of his three Wimbledon titles, 80 years on his name continues to make history on and off the courts. A limited release of the 1934 Tennis Shoe marks the unlikely rise of one of the greatest names in tennis. Five global independents customise their own edition of the 1934 Fred Perry archive shoe: OiPolloi, Bodega, Hanon, Footpatrol, and Firmament.
The 1934 Re-Issue Project launches Wednesday, June 25th.

New Balance x Firmament CT300
21. June 2014 / Jörg
Pine Sunset
After 12 months we're close to launching the New Balance x Firmament CT300 "Pine Sunset". After my first custom New Balance Beinghunted 576 (from 10 years ago...!) and the well-received Solebox x Beinghunted 575 "The Great Outdoors" project this is the third shoe I was happy to contribute to. To offer you information behind the concept, I've included some of the conceptual ideas for the design.
Originally released in 1979, the CT300 was one of the first ever tennis shoes produced by New Balance, offering superior cushioning and durability on the court. In 2014 this heritage style makes a return, hand-crafted from premium materials at New Balance’s factory in Flimby, UK. To mark the return of the CT300, New Balance collaborated with Hanon, 24 Kilates, Sneakersnstuff and Firmament to produce four exclusive limited edition make-ups.

Pace Prints is pleased to present Ryan McGinness: Figure Drawings. This is the artist’s second exhibition with Pace Prints; his first since the gallery’s inaugural exhibition in 2007.
Ryan McGinness: Figure Drawings is a continuation of the artist’s Women series, which began in 2010. Drawing directly from nude models, McGinness approaches these drawings in the same manner in which he creates his signature undulating and layered icons. He begins with sketches, and refines those drawings down into their basic and most essential forms. In the Women series, the artist simultaneously embraces the inherent sensuality of his models through their graceful lines and gentle curves, while allowing his iconic drawings to be less about the individual woman and more about presentations of universal womanhood.

Photos & Copyright, Links & Sources.
With a degree in Communication Science the principles of publishing–such as the proper handling of sources–was no virgin soil to me. This knowledge, however, did cause a personal dilemma when I started writing on Beinghunted.com.
One of the main reasons to start Beinghunted was to open up a channel to talk about 'stuff' I liked. I had been reading Lodown magazine (as far as the stories were actually legible), i-D, The Face, Areana, Thrasher, and whatever else I could grab from the international press at Munich's main station or the one major record shop. However, by the time these titles were on the shelves–foreign magazines would take a full month to reach Germany–all the product related information was long outdated.
The internet offered a much faster and also richer medium. There was much more information to be found AND the information could be sourced from all different kinds of channels: online shops or store websites, galleries, forums, bulletin boards, ebay.com, Yahoo.jp...
Most websites in those days were privately-operated 'fan sites' as the established publishing houses saw the web as a fad or even a threat to their archaic establishment; misjudgement and/or ignorance cost some of them their existence in more recent years.

Dries Van Noten: Inspirations
1. March 2014 / Calendar / Current Interest – Nike Flyknit
The work of the belgian fashion designer, Dries Van Noten, is featured at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
This is the very first exhibition devoted to the artist’s work. As Dries Van Noten takes us on an intimate journey into his artistic universe, he reveals the singularity of his creative process which he illustrates with his various and numerous sources of inspiration. This event is an eye opening experience, where Dries Van Noten’s men’s and women’s collections are put together with iconic pieces from the museum’s fashion and textile collection.
The show also includes photographs and videos, film clips, musical references, as well as artworks by renowned artists, from public and private collections, that have triggered the designer’s imagination throughout his life and career.
