  Make Something!!

In August, Nike Stadium at Bowery hosted the Make Something!! workshops, offering local youth the chance to work creatively with the support of some renowned artists. During the World Basketball Festival the results of these creative sessions were presented in an exhibition and closed with a memorable performance at Rucker Park.

Started by Aaron Rose - the man behind the Beautiful Losers film - Make Something!! is an initiative to offer kids the opportunity to experience creative working and show them how to take their own steps towards an artistic career. Over a period of several days a group of renowned creatives such as Eric Elms (mural painting), Carri Munden (costume design), Todd James (puppet making), and Ari Marcopoulos (making zines), to name just a few, held these workshops the results of which were then exhibited at the Stadium space on Bowery on August 11th. For the launch event, the place was decorated with paintings, customized apparel - some amazing Destroyer varsity jackets for example, puppets - magazines, illustrations and a whole wall of hybrid sneakers combining elements of the Nike Hyperdunk 360MAX, Converse Star Player and the Jordan CP3...

A few days later a wider audience witnessed the grand finale of the World Basketball Festival Make Something!! initiative at Rucker Park. The show combined music and dance performances and showcased the costumes and puppets created by the Make Something!! students.
